Contamination

The independent non-profit organization Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has prepared the report Global 500 Climate Change Report 2013 in which it makes known the ten most polluting companies in the world and the bad environmental practices of each one of them. A total of 403 companies have participated in this year's report

According to this organization, all these companies are dedicated to exploiting natural resources without mitigating the impact effectively and consistently. They cause high carbon emissions and show a lack of will to incorporate sustainability as a focus of projection and development for the company. Without going any further, the report shows that the 500 largest companies in the world are responsible for almost three quarters of the 3,6 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

The ten most polluting companies that appear on this list are:

  1. Wal - Mart, the third largest public corporation on the planet that operates chains of discount department stores and warehouse clubs
  2. Exxon Mobil, the main oil company and the one with the highest market capitalization in the world at the moment

Of these, 16 are American, six British, five Canadian, five French, five German, two Brazilian, two Japanese, two Spanish, two Swiss, and one from Australia, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa and South Korea.
