SEPE and contrast data, what are they?
On the one hand, you should know that the SEPE is the State Public Employment Service, a body that is part of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and that comes to replace what was previously known as INEM. It has been operating since 2003 and is in charge, among many functions, of unemployment benefits, as well as aid, ERTES, etc.
On the other hand we have SEPE contrast data. These are nothing more than a way to consult these benefits over the Internet and with a secure means that your data is protected (like everything on the Internet, in a relative way). These data are linked to the person receiving these benefits and are not something “new or a numbering given by the SEPE.
And it is that the contrast data really what they have is your personal data, the payrolls that correspond to you for the unemployment benefits or benefits that you receive or have received, your pending applications, certificates, denials, etc.
Now, to access, you need some keys that are made up of your NIF or DNI, or NIE, the number of your bank account and your telephone number or the date on which you requested the benefit.
What are the advantages of accessing information in this way?
The contrast data is not something "old", it is actually a method that was enabled as of July 1, 2020. It is clear that it is much more secure than the old one (which was only accessed with the bank account and DNI ). But it also has many advantages that make users happy with it. For example: uterine

How to request access to know that information
Perhaps one of the questions that arises at this time is how to get contrast data from SEPE. Maybe they give you a card with them? Do you have to request them?
Actually, it is much easier than that. And it is that you do not need to ask for them, you have them yourself. For example:
Do you know what your DNI or NIE is?
And your bank account number? You may not know it by heart, but surely you have that data noted.
Well, with that you already have your contrast data and they are the ones you are going to use to access the State Public Employment Service, that is, the SEPE.
How to check the contrast data in SEPE
Now that you know that you do not need to do any paperwork, you may want to access the contrast data that the SEPE has about you, especially to see that everything is correct or that you need to make any changes. For this, you have to start with the SEPE page:
- In this case, go to the Performance query part and look for the Contrast data tab.
- You will get a screen in which you will be asked to write your NIF (the DNI with the capital letter) or the NIE (It is the foreign nationality residing in the country).
- Next, you will have to enter the last 10 digits of your bank account, using the IBAN field.
- The last step will give you to choose between two options: put the date of the application for unemployment benefits or put your phone number.
- Once you accept the verification that "you are human" an "Access" button will appear. If you press, you will be able to see the contrast data you have.
Now, it is not the only way. The contrast data can also be viewed through a digital certificate. This one has its pros and cons, but it can be another option to access.
Is it better to access with a digital certificate?
If you are wondering, we must tell you that the digital certificate is a more secure medium, but they could also be hacked and lost information, expired or blocked, especially if you do not enter the data correctly, so you would have to formalize the unlocking (and it is not usually done online).
What happens if you cannot access that data in the SEPE?
It may happen at some point that you stand in front of a computer or a mobile or tablet and after doing all the previous steps, the web page does not show you that contrast data. Why?
Well, in principle you should not worry, and just let some time pass to see if the error comes out later. And it is that, sometimes, when the web fails, it is because they are dumping data.
That is, they are updating or entering data and, to avoid problems when saving them, they disable access for a few hours (the time it takes to upload the data or update everything). Now, if after a few days you see that the failure continues, it would be advisable to notify or see if there is any news that justifies this problem.
There may also be planned shutdowns for maintenance tasks, but normally in these cases they usually notify you before you do what you need before the service is down for a while.
