How to install the FNMT digital certificate
Let's go with the first installation. Assuming that you have requested the digital certificate from the FNMT (Factory of Currency and Stamps) and that you already have it on your computer, the steps are easy to follow. Now, we want to make a small point and that is that, as they already notify you from the web, the download and installation must be done on the same computer where you started the process.
That is to say, if you did it with the laptop, you can't install it on the base computer. You have to do it on the laptop. Does that mean I won't be able to put it in the other? No, far from it. To install the FNMT digital certificate on that computer, follow these steps:
- Download the digital certificate file and save it on your computer. It will have arrived in an email to the email that you put when managing the process. Once you have proven your identity (either by going to an office or by Internet (with cl@ve or electronic ID), in a matter of hours you will receive that email that will carry your digital certificate.
- Open the downloaded file and follow the instructions on the screen to install the certificate on your computer. Since we know that this is very ambiguous, We have thought of giving you the general steps (it will depend on the computer, operating system and browser so they can change a bit). For example, if you do it with Windows and with Google Chrome, they would be:
- Open the digital certificate file that you previously downloaded. A security warning window will appear. Click the "Open" button to continue.
- The Certificate Import Wizard will then open. Select the “Next” option to continue.
- Choose the option “Place all certificates in the following store” and click “Browse”.
- Select “Personal” as the certificate store and click “OK”. Some tell you to default it to whatever storage you want, but we highly recommend setting it to personal to make sure it's in the right place (which can sometimes cause problems). Click “Next” and then “Finish”.
- If requested, which is the safest, enter the certificate password and click “OK”.

How to install the digital certificate of the electronic DNI

Back in the day, these were given out for free by some companies, but if you don't have it, you can buy a cheap one (many computer stores should have it).

- Insert the electronic ID into the card reader.
- Open the electronic ID support program. In most cases, the program will open automatically when the card is detected in the reader.
- In the electronic DNI support program, select the option “Activate my certificate”.
- Enter the PIN number of your electronic DNI when prompted. The default PIN is the same one used to carry out procedures on the electronic DNI. If you do not remember it, or you have lost it, you should go to an office to request a reset. This PIN was given to you in its day together with the electronic DNI, in a sealed envelope that contains only the key that you will need whenever you want to use the certificate and the electronic signature.
- Once the PIN is entered, the electronic DNI support program will install the digital certificate on your computer.
- Finally, to verify that the certificate has been installed correctly, you can perform an electronic signature test. The electronic DNI support program has an option to carry out this test. In the event that it does not work there, it would be enough to go to a page where they ask you for the digital certificate to prove that it works correctly.
How to install the digital certificate on the mobile
Lastly, We want to talk to you about the installation of the digital certificate on the mobile. Because yes, it can be done as long as your terminal has the appropriate technology to read the electronic DNI chip. If not, you could not have it (at least with the DNI, yes with the FNMT certificate).
In the first case, with the DNI, the steps would be:
- Download and install the application corresponding to your mobile operating system. For example, on Android you can use the "DNIeRemote" app, while on iOS you can use the "DNIe" app.
- Connect the card reader to your mobile device via an OTG cable or via a Bluetooth connection, if your reader supports it. Insert the electronic ID into the card reader.
- Open the application that you have downloaded for the installation of the digital certificate.
- Enter the PIN number of your electronic DNI when prompted.
- Wait for the app to install the certificate on your mobile device.
- Verify that the certificate has been installed correctly by performing an electronic signature test through the application.
If the certificate you have is from the FNMT, the first thing you will have to do is export it from your computer. That is, first it must be installed on the computer and then you must enter the certificates and export it. Now, you must put it in the mobile and follow these steps:
- Download and install the corresponding application. On Android you can use the “Android Keystore” app, while on iOS you can use the “Keychain Access” app.
- Open the digital certificate management application and select the "Import" or "Add certificate" option.
- Look for the digital certificate file that you have entered in the mobile (the one you exported from your computer). It may ask you for the password.
- Wait for the application to import the certificate and that's it, all you have to do is check that it really works.
