Help after unemployment

unemployment aid

Being unemployed is not a pleasant situation. If you are lucky enough to receive the contributory unemployment benefit month after month, you will feel a little better since, while you find a new job, you have a "cushion" to alleviate the problems. But is there help after the strike? If you are about to exhaust the benefit, it is normal that you begin to fear it, especially if you have not yet found a job.

But you should know that there are help after unemployment, as long as you meet the requirements. Do you want to know what they are? Today we explain the different types of aid for the unemployed that are available.

Contributory unemployment benefit

Contributory unemployment benefit

The contributory unemployment benefit is better known as "unemployment", and it is a salary that is paid to you at the end of the month despite not having a job, because you have previously contributed to receive it. Specifically, it is said that, for each year worked, you have 4 months of unemployment, in such a way that, depending on how long you have been, it will correspond to you more or less.

This help is received according to your contribution base, without extras or anything that will increase your salary when you were working. However, and as we have said, it is not unlimited, but has a validity period and, after this, you would stop charging it, whether or not you have found a job.

The problem is that many people who collect unemployment do not finish it and already have a job (or they pause it because they have found one); For this reason, once this benefit ends, they feel helpless because, how to make ends meet if there is no income?

Fortunately, there are other aids after unemployment, perhaps less known as such, But they can help you alleviate that problem while you keep trying to be active in the job market again.

Help after unemployment

The post-unemployment benefits are tools that you can avail yourself of when, once the unemployment benefit has ended, you still have not found a job to have a salary at the end of the month.

However, the State Employment Service, the SEPE, does provide a series of aid for when unemployment is exhausted. And these are the following:

Aid after unemployment: Active insertion income

Better known by its acronym, RAI, is one of the grants that you can request as long as you meet the requirements. To get started, You must be under 65 years of age. In addition, you need to register as a job seeker at SEPE, which means that they can call you to do job interviews or to attend training courses.

And you cannot have a monthly income higher than 75% of the minimum interprofessional salary.

You have a spouse and / or children under 26 years of age (or disabled elderly), minors in foster care ... then all the income of the family unit must be added and, thus, not exceed that 75% of the SMI.

This help will be denied if you have benefited from it previously (that is, the previous year), unless you are a victim of gender violence or a disabled person.

The amount of this aid is 430,27 euros and is received for a maximum of 11 months. Beyond that time it would be necessary to look for other alternatives.

Aid for people over 45 years of age

When a person reaches 45 years of age and is unemployed, the possibility of returning to the labor market is much more difficult than for young people. Therefore, there is this help.

It is a subsidy to be able to collect a subsidy. But for this, a series of requirements must be met, such as the be registered as a jobseeker for at least one month after exhausting the contributory benefit, not having rejected a job offer and not having refused to undertake any training.

Income must not exceed 712.50 euros.

If you meet the requirements, you will have access to this help. Of course, you will charge 430 euros per month and only for a maximum period of 6 months.

Aid after unemployment for people over 52 years of age

unemployment aid

This aid had already been in the aid after unemployment for some time, but it was offered to those over 55 years of age. However, a few years ago it was lowered to 52 years. Regarding the requirements, in addition to age, it is necessary to meet the same as if you had to access a contributory retirement pension. What's more, You must be unemployed and registered with the SEPE, not have your own income and have exhausted other benefits.

Regarding the amount, an 80% help is received from the Public Indicator of Monthly Multiple Effects Income (IPREM) and it will be maintained until you find a job or until you enter the retirement pension (that is, from the age of 52 until retirement age).

Unemployment benefit

In this case, the unemployment benefit can only be requested when there are family dependents, and also the unemployment benefit has been exhausted. To do this, in addition to being registered as a job seeker, you cannot have rejected any job offer or training course. Family income cannot exceed 75% of the minimum interprofessional salary and it is important, and for this reason we emphasize it, the fact that the contributory benefit must have been exhausted.

As a general rule, the aid is collected for 18 months, but in terms of 6 in 6, Unless they are unemployed under 45 years of age with family dependents who have exhausted the (contributory) unemployment of a minimum duration of 6 months. In this case, the duration is 24 months.

The same duration as if they are unemployed over 45 years of age with an exhausted contributory benefit of at least 4 months and with family responsibilities.

In the case of the unemployed with family responsibilities and over 45, but who will exhaust an unemployment benefit of at least 6 months, there will be 30 months of this unemployment benefit.

You will receive 451.92 euros per month.

Extraordinary unemployment benefit (SED)

This aid of 431 euros per month, for a period of 6 months, is offered to the long-term unemployed. To be able to request it, you must have already exhausted the unemployment benefit, and be considered long-term unemployed (that is, have more than 360 days registered as a job seeker in the 18 months prior to when you apply for the benefit).

Solo is offered to people with dependents and it is necessary that there are no incomes, or at least that they are not higher than 75% of the SMI.

Other aid after unemployment

unemployment aid

In addition to the aids that we have mentioned, the truth is that there are also other aids after unemployment, less known, but just as effective.

For example:

  • Subsidy for insufficient contribution.
  • Help for domestic workers.
  • Subsidy for temporary contract workers.
  • Returned emigrants over 45 years of age.
  • Aid from town councils and Autonomous Communities.
  • Aid from NGOs (Cáritas, Red Cross ...).
