Gowex, lesson learned and at a reasonable cost

Gowex

Since I started investing in the Stock Market, it was clear to me that this day was going to come. As much as I have a very clear long-term investment strategy, it is clear that one day I will I was going to go to the dark side and taste the sensation and adrenaline that you feel when speculate with the bag.

The occasion was very appropriate. Gowex is a company that I had followed for a long time and that I liked. It seemed like a good model for a Spanish startup that had options to do something big internationally (I even saw Google buying it in the future) and Jenaro was a CEO who made a very good impression on me.

So taking advantage of the report output from Gotham City Research decided to enter the stock when the stock was trading at just under € 8. The bad thing about all this is not that it entered a value that I liked, but that I did it mainly because I did not believe the Gotham report and considered that the stock was going to rise and recover its value in a short time.

And in light of the events of these days I was wrong and now I am a shareholder of a company that is about to request a bankruptcy 🙁

Learn the lesson

The good part of the whole story is that I was very conservative and only bought a testimonial number of shares as this was mostly taken as an experiment to see how it worked. So looking at the glass half full you can tell that I have learned an important lesson (how can I help avoid losing more money in the future) at a fairly low cost. A lesson that will make me avoid entering companies whose business models I am not able to understand 100% and to question any data that may seem more optimistic than what I consider real.

And Gowex?

The future of Gowex is full of questions that would be clarified in the coming days or months. Will those responsible for the company end up in prison? Will the company finally request a contest? Will the PwC audit be done or is it already meaningless? The part that affects me the most is that Gowex acquired several companies where I have great friends (Ideup! For example) and the truth is that I would like them to be able to get out of this situation in the best possible way. Not to mention the Gowex employees, since I know that their internal team was very good and they are not responsible for this situation.
