Does e-commerce give us a better quality of life?

Worker at Amazon Spain

This summer I bought a cover for my mobile by Amazon and if at that time I hired Amazon Premium In the trial period, the order would arrive free and faster, so I did not hesitate for a second. As it will have happened to many people, since it is the objective of the company, after a month I forgot cancel the subscription and they charged me 14 euros for a year of free shipping.

It was not until this weekend that I wanted to place another order, when I saw that my account was premium and that therefore all orders would be free for one year. For a moment I doubted if I would somehow try to assert my consumer rights and claim the fourteen euros or not claim. Finally I opted for the latter, I think those fourteen euros are going to be over amortized.

As well I rejected cancel the premium account because I thought that being able to ask practically any object that I need and that I send home »free» you can contribute to a improvement of my quality of life. The reality is that in this economic system where the important thing is capital and obtaining the greatest profit from companies, day by day they overwhelm us more with advertising and they create new needs for us that are sometimes real but sometimes not. In this context, tiempo what we use consumption is a lot, I would say too much; when we are not working to raise capital, we are looking how to use and spend it. You can be skeptical of this theory, but thinking about how long a wedding or a housewife dedicated to making the necessary purchases to support the whole family, one can get used to the idea of the amount of time that we dedicate to consumption.

And this is where e-commerce can provide us with a faster consumption: by avoiding travel, queues ... safer: with a couple of clicks we can already know what other people think on the products we are looking for and as the human factor hardly intervenes, only through advertising they can persuade, but never through a sales force, that although sometimes it can advise us on which product best suits our needs, on other occasions it can use inside information (sales margin) to try to guide our decision towards the product that brings the most benefit to the commercial ... and finally, thanks to the internet we can practice a consumption more responsible. Therefore, in electronic commerce one can speak of a purer and more transparent competition than in many of the physical stores.

Being able to take advantage of these advantages of electronic commerce is related in a direct with each person. It is possible that a person does not want to take advantage of the advantages that it brings and simply uses it as a tool that further favors the consumerism, which is very common, especially for those clients of »private sales clubs»That exert pressure in the form of a supply limit both in time and in stock.

And while it is true that it can also be used as a counter-argument the most direct deal of physical stores, it depends on the priority you give it, but at the end of the day, that treatment never usually goes beyond a purely superficial relationship.

That is why, for me and for those who know control their consumerism, electronic commerce can indeed contribute to a better life quality; the time you can spend primarily on displacements and in making purchases, since electronic commerce has another implicit advantage: a person takes the products for you (what is known as picking), I can spend that time on what I decide and also, I make sure that what I buy is quality for the comments and experiences of other buyers.

Does e-commerce improve your quality of life? Do you think that on the contrary it decreases it? What do you think will become of physical stores?
